The Institute of Digital Games would like to congratulate Phil Lopes for successfully defending his PhD in Artificial Intelligence in Digital Games. His research focused on Generating Multi-Faceted Game Content from Level to Audio and Measuring Affect of Dynamic Sonification of Horror Levels.
His main research involved Sonancia, which is a multi-faceted generator for the horror genre. Designers or the system itself can define specific progressions of how the tension of the level should rise and fall. The Sonancia generator will generator levels and their soundscapes adhering to the parameters defined. More details on the Sonancia system can be found here.
