On 30 June, 2022, IDG researchers Marvin Zammit, Antonios Liapis, and Georgios N. Yannakakis received the Best Student Paper award at the 13th International Conference on Computational Creativity for their work on "Seeding Diversity in AI Art". The awarded paper integrates evolutionary search towards quality & diversity into a traditional AI Art pipeline that uses Generative Adversarial Networks. This allows the system to be more creative by understanding which colors have been overused before and diversify its process. This work is funded by the AI4Media project which focuses on delivering the next generation of core AI advances & training to serve the Media sector. The research within IDG is contributing to the project with algorithms that blend artificial evolution & deep learning.
